An In-depth Look: The X-Files

There is much speculation going on in the world of the X-Files right now. As the powerplay between Chris Carter, Fox, and certain high paid actors continues, new rumors and gossip are abound. In this it's seventh season, the X-Files continues to dominate the airwaves with it's supernatural thrills, and conspiracy driven plots.

However, it seems that most of the writers and producers feel that the timing is right to end the series. Co-executive producer Frank Spotnitz recently told Sci Fi cable channelsí Sci Fi Weekly website "I love the series, I could go on forever, but I just think the time is right. There is a point in time when I thought five seasons was going to be it, and then we got two more years of life. And I think it feels right [to finish] at the end of this season. I think there will probably be enormous pressure put on all of us to continue. Honestly, it doesn't depend on me; it depends on Chris [Carter] and David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson], and what they decide."

If the X-Files does end this season will we ever see any of our favorite charcters again? During some recent online chats, Chris Carter answered some questions pertaining to the continuation of the X-FIles universe and three of it's quirkiest characters the Lone Gunmen. "We have done shows of just the Lone Gunmen. If you mean a series of just the Lone Gunmen, we've thought of that too. We're still thinking." Well okay it's just a thought, but we think it would rock. And what of all this talk about a second X-Files movie, well Frank Spotnitz says "We are just in the early discussions about what the next movie would be and when we would shoot it. So we are pretty far off, still. It really won't be until after the series ends."

Even if the seventh season is not the final season, the current writers are writing the story in that direction. The producer said, "We've all been thinking about it, in anticipation of this being the last year--what's the best way to send off Skinner, Krycek, Marita Covarrubius, the CSM, and all of these characters that we have come to care so much about? And we're working out the story lines that will lead to the series finale, and to the place where we leave all these characters as the TV series ends. So that's very exciting, while also a huge responsibility, because it's a farewell, and we want to do it just right." For more information on the X-Files visit: www.fandom.com/x-files

Neil Gaiman, and Yoshitaka Amano (Illustrator) should have gotten together a long time ago. This graphic novel featuring the tale of the fox and the monk, as portrayed by the Lord of Dreams, is a beautiful well told story that unlike most of Gaiman's writing, is told completly in one volume. Fans of Gaiman will not want to miss this, perhaps one of his best stories, next to the 'kindly ones' of course.

Rumors and Gossip

Well, even if you didn't want it, your going to get it, talks have started to begin developing a third and fourth Terminator. While Arnie hasn't said anything about it yet, the people who own the rights, say that production will go on with or without him. The third Terminator will take place in a state of war and will be written by Tedi Sarafian ("Metalheads") , while the fourth will be in the post apocalyptic future and will be written by David Wilson ("Supernova"). Both movies will center around John Conner, his cyborg bodyguard, and an evil hunter droid in pursuit.

The most vile and hated creature ever to smudge the big screen will be back as reported by Starwars.com. Jar Jar Binks, the Gungan exile, will also be playing a large role in the next Star Wars film. Ahmed Best, the voice of Jar Jar, will also be returning to play the akward comic relief character. Oh Boy.

Jodie Foster has recently voiced great dis-taste with the recent portrayal of Clarice in the newest Hannibal book. Apparently the studios agree with her, as the script for the next movie is undergoing a re-write to hopefully lure the return of Jodie Foster, and Anthony Hopkins in the much anticipated sequel to Silence of the Lambs. Click here to read why the original script was something to poop on.

Just when you thought you had seen the last of everyone's favorite wax figure, Michael Jackson, the announcement comes that he will be playing Edgar Allan Poe in a movie about the last five days of Poe's life. Truly scary indeed.

Billy Boyd (Pippin) and Dominic Monaghan (Merry) from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, recently spoke to the Evening Press about their upcoming movie. When asked about the special effects they replied "Some of the stuff they can do is quite incredible. Thatís been great fun; wild stuff." Boyd also explained that the actors are being trained to pronounce the scriptís archaic words correctly, adding, "A lot of work has gone into that. You`ll have to wait and see." -cinescape
